There was a time when I woke up each morning with a lingering back ache that sometimes lasted for hours. This condition did not yield in spite of my best efforts working Christian Science, until one day....

It happened during an Annual Meeting of the members of the Mother Church in Boston, Mass., when a speaker flatly stated that Christian Science has never failed. Well, I almost laughed. After all, I was a living example to the contrary as I sat there with my back still aching late in the morning, while this radical statement was being made. However, I also realized at this moment that in a technical sense the speaker was correct; the Christian Science itself has never failed. I reasoned that principles it represents and the truth behind them reflect divine Principle and divine Truth. I realized that these were the same at this moment as they had been during the days when Christ Jesus had demonstrated them in healing works, or Mary Baker Eddy in her time. I realized that time is not a factor. I reasoned these principles and truth were just as effective at the present moment than they had always been, and just as valid to my experience right there and then.

As I reasoned along this line the back pain simply vanished. It flowed away. I was free.

This happened many years ago.  The nagging pain that had persisted for a long period prior to this moment, never returned. The healing was completed in literally an instant.

I was on assignment at an IBM lab at the time. One morning I felt quite ill when I woke. I supposed that perhaps a hearty breakfast would elevate the ill feeling, as it might have been hunger, but that was to no avail. Nothing was resolved and the condition grew gradually worse.

During the day, while working in the lab, the condition became so bad that I had to sit down from time to time to address the condition, as I was used to do according to the principles of Christian Science. That too, did not resolve the situation. At lunch time I felt no desire for foot, and less so at dinner time.

That evening I returned to my hotel room, right after work, and took my books out to read the week's Christian Science Bible lesson. I read the entire lesson from start to finish, as I normally did. By the time I was finished an hour later, I realized with amazement that I didn't feel ill anymore. I felt perfectly well, nor could I recollect when the healing had actually occurred.

Overjoyed by this liberation I went out for supper, probably with dessert that made up for the missed lunch. I don't remember the fine details anymore, but I do remember that I felt not the slightest bit ill. To the contrary, I felt great! Also, to the best of my recollection, the condition never re-occurred during all the years that followed.
