Healing
the world for the coming Ice Age
the
moral impetus for a new renaissance
The Universe is a place
of constant change that we need adjust ourselves to, with cyclical rhythms that are themselves changing.

palaeotemperature
covering the entire Phenerozoic Eon, the eon of abundant life.
When the great
explosion of life began, primitive as it was at first, the Earth was very much
warmer than it is today. But it also experienced several great ice ages along
the way. The first caused the great Ordovician Extinction (-450 my) in which a large
portion of all the marine species perished, that had developed up to this time.
The second great ice age, a few hundred million years later, caused the most
devastating extinction of life in geologic history, the Permian Extinction (-300
my). In
this great ice age 96 percent of all marine species perished. A whopping 70 percent of
all the Earth's vertebrate species become extinct. Even insect species
became extinct. The Permian Extinction was the only known mass extinction of
insects that ever occurred. However, the vast devastation of life cleared the
field for the era of the dinosaurs, the Mesozoic Era. The dinosaurs flourished
in a long period of warm climates, till about 65 million years ago, when the
'modern' era began, the Cenozoic Era, the era of the mammals.

Millions
of years ago (note, the timeline is reversed)
About fifty million
years ago the Earth was 12 decrees C. warmer. Forests covered much of the land.
The age of the dinosaurs was history. We don't know what exactly caused their
extinction. Many theories exist. The ever-changing climate may have played a
role, or a meteor impact. The extinction of the dinosaurs cleared the slate once more, after which the
more adaptable warm blooded
mammals inherited the Earth. A short way into the Cenozoic Era the Earth began to
cool. The trend continued to the present. During the
Oligocene Period of this era (-30 my), the period of a mini ice age
happened. Antarctica 'suddenly'
froze over for about ten million years. It thawed again, but then froze over once more
near the end of the Miocene Epoch and remained frozen from this point on. The
Earth' climate never
recovered from this cooling, but grew colder still.
*1
(note, the timeline is reversed)
As we entered the next
phase, the Pleistocene Epoch, the large temperature swings occurred more rapidly (in
41,000-year cycles) and with ever-greater temperature swings. Around a million
years the cycles became longer (100,000 years in duration), with deeper and
deeper low temperatures with successive cycles. Both of the periods together are termed the Pleistocene
Epoch, the epoch of the modern ice ages.
Climate
history of the last 420,000 years
We are presently in-between the last
glaciation cycle, that is commonly referred to as the "Ice Age," and the next
cycle that is about to begin. The little black spot above on the right is our
current interglacial warm period. This is the timeframe in which, what call
'civilization,' developed. Our interglacial climate is a cyclical anomaly in the overall context. It provides us
with a pleasant warm holiday from the normal cold glaciation climate. Our
holiday from the cold is appropriately named, the
Holocene Epoch. Unfortunately, the Holocene has run its course. We are in a transition zone of
uncertainty where major changes could occur rapidly, and dramatically, with
enormous effects on our food supply that is totally dependent on the warm
climate that has that has been the standard for the last 12,800 years.
*2
During the interglacial optimum
the Earth was very much warmer than it is today. We had so much moisture in the
air that had rivers running in the Sahara. Also, there is no such thing as a
global climate. The above temperature measurements are taken from ice core
samples indicating the prevailing temperatures above the Greenland ice sheet at
the time. Nevertheless, the ice core data provides an indication of the general
climate trends throughout the Earth. In real terms there is no such
thing as a standard climate. The above graph shows the nature of the constantly
shifting general climate. It is a smoothed out version of what is generally
happening. The more detailed version is shown below.

Climate
history
The Earth's climate is constantly changing, as it
reflects the changes in the "space weather," the conditions of the astrophysical
environment in which our solar system is located, and our sun operates in. We have seen large climate
changes going throughout the present interglacial timeframe, which really obsoletes the
concept of a standard climate.
There have been cold spells, such
as the little ice age, in which great famine erupted, like the one that wiped
out half the population of Iceland, or that which caused the potato blight, or
added to the economic devastation that caused the black death plague. There
have also been warm times, such as the medieval optimum when win yards
flourished in Scotland and Greenland. However, these events have all been the
result of relatively small temperature variation of typically less than a degree
from the prevailing average. Nor can the prevailing average be taken as a
standard, as it has bee constantly changing throughout the interglacial period.
In contrast with these relative small temperature
variations stand the huge variations that have been preserved in glacial ice
from the great glaciation cycles. And even there, the discovered temperature
changes were swift, radical, and often of short duration, sometimes lasting just
a few decades.
The glaciation cycles are
typically cycles of deep cooling. Earlier interpretations of ice core samples
have yielded estimates as low a ten degrees below the present climate average, but new
data suggests that the deep lows might have been twice as cold, up to twenty
degrees below the current average. This updated perception appears to reflect
more the climate reality is observed by the effects of cold. It evidently takes
a massive cooling for the 'warm' Pacific ocean to freeze over in winter all the
way down to the northern coast of Mexico, and to remain permanently frozen as
far south as Seattle and New York, and for the permafrost line to reach as far
south as Beijing. What the deepest absolute temperatures might have been in
specific areas remains open to conjectures.
Presently 10% of the landmass of
our planet is covered in ice. 96% of that is located in Antarctica. During
glaciation periods, 30% of the landmass becomes covered with ice. The increase occurs
mainly in the northern hemisphere since the southern hemisphere landmass remains
permanently frozen over. When the climate change towards glaciation begins, the cooling can happen rapidly.
Transitions in the range of 20 to 70 years have been observed in geologic
records. Some transitions might have
been as long as 400 years. As a transition unfolds, large ice fields begin to
form. The snow typically keeps piling up on land over a period of a thousand years
over which the ocean surface level drops by 160 feet. The ocean level typically stabilize
after that, until the big melts begin at the end of the glaciation cycles.
Of course, the ice sheets that
accumulate are not the
only adverse consequence that affect us. As the climate cools, the air becomes increasingly dryer,
because of reduced evaporation occurring. In the dry cold, forests typically die
out and give way to space grasslands that require less moisture, or give way to
desert conditions. The tropical rainforests typically die out due to the loss of
moisture, and become grasslands and desserts in this process. For the USA, the
prospects are worse. Since it is known that during the last Ice Age the
permafrost line extended as far south as Beijing, to the 40
degree line, which cuts right through the center of the USA, the permafrost may
also extend this far south, if not further, reaching possibly deep into the
South-Central
States. The prospects are not exactly pleasant.
How soon the next glaciation cycle
will begin is beyond anyone's ability to precisely predict. No science exists
for that can reliably foretell the future astrophysical conditions that affect
our planet,
since the effects that create our climates are only faintly understood and the
causes are too
distant in their origin to be measurable. Every approach that mankind has taken so
far to create a model for prediction has ended inconclusive. The Milankovitch Cycles theory
had once offered hope.
Unfortunately, the Universe doesn't agree with us on that count, but has bigger
movements afoot. The physically observed cycles in historic records don't match
up with what should have been observed according to the computed Milankovitch
cycles. The mismatch tells us
that far greater forces are at play, which we presently lack the means to explore,
and measure, and predict. The orbital variations that Milankovitch Cycles theory
is based on, appear to be themselves subsequent to the greater causative forces
that are reflected in the ice ages, rather than being the cause for the ice ages.
The most likely theory that will
stand in the end, will be the Electric Universe
theory, that supports the Plasma Galaxy
theory pioneered by Nobel laureate
Hannes Alfven, which defines the Universe and every
sun, and our climate, as being electrically powered; and defines our galaxy,
and any other, as an electrically functioning 'engine' with numerous
long-term plasma electric cycles interacting within it; which is itself constantly
in motion, rotating, and is itself subject to the changing dynamic patterns of
power flow in the
Universe.
Considering the size of our galaxy, that is 100,000 light-years in
diameter, and its maze of 200 to 400 billion interacting solar systems within
it, it would be amazing if our solar system, and therefore Earth, would not
be subjected to the numerous kinds of cyclical changes that have bee observed, and
the enormously large general
climatic changes that result from it, that have been the recognized in the climate history of
the Earth.

"Space is filled with a network of currents which transfer energy and momentum over large or very large distances. The currents often pinch to filamentary or surface currents. The latter are likely to give space, as also interstellar and intergalactic space, a cellular structure." —Hannes
Alfvén.
What Hannes
Alfven had theorized decades ago can now be visually observed with the space
based Hubble telescope. (Hubble
Heritage Gallery)

The increasingly acknowledged failing of the Milankovitch
theory -- which is mechanistically neat, but which the Universe doesn't seem to
adhere to -- leaves us with nothing more to go
by
then the general historic pattern that have been observed in geologic records
spanning the last million years, as a guide for assessing the future probabilities.
In the light of the trends that we have seen, it is unreasonable to assume that these pattern
will abruptly end for our convenience, or that they will themselves not be
always changing and evolve new patterns. And the trend is that long-term cooling
will likely escalate as the trend observed over the last 420,000 years suggests,
with the uncertainties themselves increasing as well.
The are only two things
that appear absolutely certain about the next Ice Age transition.
One certainty is, that it will
come. No CO2 hoax, or carbon smoking, can stop it,
And the other certainty is,
that it will devastate agriculture on a global scale, the very thing that our existence absolutely
depends on.
While there is nothing we can do about the first certainty,
we can
prepare ourselves for the second, by creating the technological infrastructures
to place the endangered agriculture of the planet, and this may include all of
it, into indoor facilities. This
not a small task, considering the vast areas that are presently under
agriculture, which may not be agriculturally useful for very much longer. Since
it is no more possible to predict with certainty the precise timeframe when the
transition will occur, then its to predict the day of the occurrence of the next
earthquake, it appears wise to respond to the potential probability, which
becomes increasingly more immediate, considering that the failure to respond,
and resulting loss of agriculture, would likely lead to the mass extinction of
well over 90% of mankind.
We can forget about
manmade global warming
The so-called manmade Global
warming is a political hoax. It is not a component of the physical climate. The
entire hoopla is centered on a fantasy that has been conjured-up for political
purposes as a science-fraud upon mankind with genocidal objectives in the
service of empire. This has essentially been admitted
at the 2009 Copenhagen Climate Change Conference. The political hoax
would be laughable if it wasn't as serious in consequence as are still intended.
In physical terms, of course, it is laughable. The global warming hoopla is a
scandalous theatric tragedy *3 that plays up the increase of a few percent in
the carbon dioxide component of the of the Earth's atmosphere (presently 390
parts per million - a 35% increase since the start of industrialization, falsely
assumed *3), while in historic times, when the carbon dioxide component was 18
times greater than it is today (not just a few percent), the' hugely massive' amount
of it had such a minuscule
effect that it didn't prevent, or even hinder, the great Ice Age that caused the
cataclysmic Ordovician Extinction (-450
my ago) that became the second-most devastating extinction of life on our planet
that eradicated a large
portion of all the marine species existing at this time. Sure, the global
greenhouse exists and is a vital part of our climate dynamics, without which the
Earth would be a giant snowball, but is up to 97% percent resulting from water
vapor, which in turn is immensely affected by cosmic radiation, and the
shielding effect of the ever-changing solar heliosphere that attenuates the incoming
cosmic radiation. This interaction is well understood, but is politically denied
to exist. Nor is the science community in consensus with the political scam. The
opposite is true. There have been huge
oppositions movements afoot for decades, with the latest opposition
declaration signed by 31,000 American scientists. They are saying to
society in different ways, "you fools, wake up, open your eyes."
Indeed, global
warming is a fairy tale of badly written fiction.
The scientific fact is that carbon
dioxide (CO2) has no measurable impact on the climate, while it is essential to
life. For this reason, greenhouse operators add CO2 to the greenhouse
atmosphere. If the CO2 concentrations drops below the current level by a factor
of two, plants stop growing and die. *4
The physical reality puts
a moral question before us: to respond today
The task in the present age is to stop our
childish games of monetarism immediately and forever, and create the greatest
renaissance ever imagined. That's the only crisis management possible. The huge
infrastructures that are needed for global indoor agriculture may take a hundred
years to build, as they can only be built as an economic by-product of a vast
renaissance.

by Stephen
Hudson
Therefore, in order to assure our food supply, and that
of our children, we need a healing of ourselves in the present that enables our
human development, scientifically, culturally, and civilly to such a degree that
essential advances become possible. None of this is possible for as long as
mankind remains stuck in its 'easy chair' that is a death trap in disguise. To establish
indoor agriculture at the present level of production is a gigantic undertaking,
requiring enormous developments in energy, materials, and construction
technologies, and to get the ball rolling requires the most-far-reaching social
development ever imagined in our self-perception as human beings and of
one-another.
Physically, nothing short of large scale nuclear power development, including
fusion power development will do. The task to pull this thing off on the scale that is
required, will likely involve nothing less than a hundred years development cycles.
But it can be done. Everything that we need is within reach, if we care to reach
for it.
Fifty story agricultural complexes with a base of thousands of acres is
within the range of the possible. We have the material and the manpower to do it, if we care
to develop these resources, especial our human resource, and protect it, enable its potential, and advance it by all possible
means.
But will we do what
needs to be done?
This is the key question where the
uncertainty begins. The difficulties involved in creating the physical
technologies, processes, and infrastructures, appear to be the smallest part of
the challenge we face, because as human beings, we already live in an ice age,
in a solidly-frozen mental environment. The real question is, will our love
reach far enough beyond the tip of our nose into the future, to change our world
in the present for it. Will we gamble that the next Ice Age won't hit the world
for another thousand years, and thereby place the future existence of mankind at
risk, by doing nothing?
The forbidden phrase
The forbidden phrase is Ice Age.
In the early 1970s some concerns became raised in the scientific community about
the potential return of the Ice Age and its consequences for our world. In 1974
the concern was hijacked by the forces of empire with such an intense assault
that term 'Ice Age' became stricken and replaced with the term 'global warming'
so that the term Ice Age became in effect forbidden, enforced with the penalty
of slander, whereby it remained largely unspoken. From this day on, the
potential for an ice age renaissance was pushed into the background and
smothered with lies. The motive behind this political move is evident, when one
considers the devastating effect the return of the Ice Age has on an unprepared
global society as the cold is devastating its food supply. It becomes the most
perfect means for enforcing depopulation that the masters of empire could
possibly hope for. The timeframe for the Ice Age Ban coincides closely with the
rising banners of empire that the world has cancer, and that this cancer is man.
The effective banning of the term Ice Age, that occurred in the same timeframe
as the ban of DDT, CFC, PCB, and nuclear power, has evidently a genocidal
intention standing behind it as have many of the other bans.
An interesting incident
Something strange happened quite
early during my writing of the series of novels, The
Lodging for the Rose. When the second volume was complete after months of my
struggling with it, on the very morning when the time had come to transmit the
work to the print shop, the computer died that it had been composed with. It
died irrecoverably. The hard drive had simply quit. Two months of work went down
the drain, including the backup copies, except for a two months old off-site
backup copy. I felt like a child who hands his work to a school teacher, who
looks at the work, smiles, and comments, "this is nice dear, but you can do
better," and then proceeds to rip the work up.
What could I do better? Was
something missing? At this point, as if the word was spoken, the idea came that
the missing element is the Ice Age. I was surprised. Wasn't the critical
concern, global warming? Who would even read the word, Ice Age, in the early
1990s and not laugh? I was laughing at myself. Soon, I wasn't laughing anymore.
The subject was eventually incorporated into the series and periodically updated
as the hidden truth gradually became known. The chapters below, and the chapters
following in the book, were the direct result of this incident.
