Christian Science doesn't heal
reality. Reality is whole.
God is universal Principle, manifest in
reality. This makes healing 'impossible' because God never falls
below the standard of perfection or recognizes the existence of anything
contrary that would require healing.
If sickness
were a
part of the divine reality, God would be its author, and it would be futile for
one to
attempt to heal it - to overthrow a work of God - but healing happens in our
time as it always
has and ever will, when we follow divine Mind into its native sphere where the
concept of healing no longer applies and the resulting blessings actually precede the
human need for them.
Christian Science is a healer in the
sense that it brings one into harmony with God, with the divine reality.
Christian Science thus becomes a portal for discerning
the reality of our being in all its quality.
On this
platform Christian Science extends an invitation to us all to
celebrate the divine quality that is the light of the world. It invites us to
'move' with the divine; to 'dance'
with God in our living - to follow the leading of Love into the land of Spirit.
On this
platform a
scientifically determined way unfolds for looking at the Lord's Prayer.
Here begins the process that we call healing.
The
proposition of the science of Christianity is:
-
that God is
Mind - divine Principle - the creative and enabling impetus; the all-ennobling, enriching, beautifying, empowering,
protecting, producing, healing, freeing, enlightening, expanding, and
harmonizing presence that is power - divine Truth;
-
that
God is Spirit - divine Soul - the infinite stage of
progress where the harmonizing divine Spirit that is Love enable wisdom, purity,
loving, strength, holiness,
spiritual understanding, spiritual power, and unity without distance;
-
that
God is Love - divine Life - that enables generosity, humanity, honestly, affection,
compassion, hope, faith, kindness, temperance - opening the gates to heaven,
harmony, and all good.
These are
all aspects of the holy sacrament of God being with us, or Christian Science
being understood. With
these, the sacrament unfolds as Truth (reality) being acknowledged. If elements
of our sacrament are missing, such as generosity, humanity, honestly, and so on,
there is something spiritually lacking in our experience and life is
correspondingly emptier than it could be.
-
To the degree to which
the sacrament unfolds, holiness becomes wholeness. Wholeness is manifest in
health. It is manifest in life as boundless being.
-
In
divine Science, God - Mind, Principle, Truth, Live, Soul, Love, Spirit - and humanity are
understood as One (Principle and its idea is One) - one in quality and in
being,
though individual in action and infinite in scope - and this One (not one of a
series) is God.
Christian Science is a healer in the
sense that it brings one into harmony with God, with the divine reality that is
the reality of our being in all its quality. Thus Christian Science extends an invitation to us all to
celebrate the divine quality that is the light of the world. It invites us to
'move' with the divine; to 'dance'
with God; to follow the leading of Love in the land of Spirit.

In 1897 a mother
wrote of a
healing she had witnessed on the day that Mary Baker Eddy, the discoverer and founder of
Christian Science, had invited her followers to visit her at her Pleasant View homestead near Concord
N.H..
It was
Independence Day. The mother and
her children had traveled all the way from Kansas City for this rare event that
promised to become a
day of celebration. For the seven-year-old daughter, however, it became a day of
agony. She suffered severely from a boil on her head. The mother tells us what
happened that day after the formal address was completed and Mary Baker Eddy
received her visitors on her porch.
"I wish I could make the world
know what I saw when Mrs. Eddy looked at those children," the mother wrote
later. "It was a revelation to
me. I saw for the first time the real Mother-Love... As I
turned in the procession and walked towards the line of trees in the front of
the yard, there was a bird sitting on the limb of a tree, and I saw the same
Love poured out on that bird that I had seen flow from Mrs. Eddy to my children.
I looked down at the grass and the flowers and there was the same Love resting
on them. It is difficult for me to put into words what I saw. This Love was
everywhere, like the light, but it was divine, not mere human affection... I
looked at the people milling around on the lawn and I saw it poured out on them.
I thought of the various discords in the field, and I saw, for the first time,
the absolute unreality of everything but this infinite Love. It was not only
everywhere present, like the light, but it was an intelligent presence that
spoke to me, and I found myself weeping as I walked back and forth under the
trees and saying out loud, 'Why did I never know you before?' 'Why have I not
known you always?' When we got back to the hotel, there was no boil on my
child's head."*
