Meet the
man who may have saved your life
and may do so again
Originally written in the late 1980s at the height of the cold war,

In the early
years of 1980s, at the height of the cold war, when the doomsday clock
stood at just a few minutes before midnight, the American economist and
statesman, Lyndon H. LaRouche Jr., intervened. With this intervention he
set an event into motion that in due course shut down the cold war.
In this manner he may have saved your life, - and yes, he may do it again.
People ask,
who is Lyndon LaRouche? What are his policies? They say, give it to me
straight! Boil it down to a half a dozen points that one can understand.
Well, I can
do better than that. I can boil it down to a single point. Lyndon
LaRouche's goals, programs, speeches, seminars, radio interviews,
international conferences, and his countless pieces of writings have one
fundamental purpose that stands above all considerations, and that is to
assure that you, me, society as a whole, have a chance to be still alive
five years from now in a thriving civilization, and for as long as our
natural life will carry us. This is presently very much in doubt, just as
it was so at the height of the cold war period when Lyndon LaRouche
intervened in a unique manner to bring that escalating madness to a close.
It is worthwhile to explore this dimension of history, at the present
time, because it illustrates the key for solving our present financial,
economic, and civilizational crises that have become equally as
threatening, if not more so.
Lyndon
LaRouche alerts the world that we face three major crises in the immediate
period ahead: a financial break down crisis, a physical economic collapse
crisis, and a "clash of civilizations" religious war crisis.
The financial breakdown crisis
We face
dangers today that are greater than any in history. We are in the
end-phase of a financial collapse that is potentially much larger than the
14th Century banking collapse that resulted in an economic and biological
disintegration throughout Europe that wiped out half the area's
populations in a short period of time. The GKO crisis in Russia in 1998,
the Asia Crisis, the LTCM collapse, The Argentina crisis, the Enron
collapse crisis with its huge interconnected mess of derivatives exposures
that could explode into a cluster bust that destroys the entire financial
system, are all but symptoms of that unfolding crisis that has not yet
fully hit us.
These great
individual tragedies are all symptoms of an axiomatic sickness that has
been implanted into the world-financial system during its reorganization
beginning in the mid 1960s. Lyndon LaRouche presents compelling evidence
that we are now at the end-phase of that disease that we allowed to creep
into the system, that is not curable. The system is so deeply infested
that it cannot be cured, but it can be replaced. It is Lyndon LaRouche's
goal to replace that system before it totally destroys the physical
foundation for human existence.
Lyndon
LaRouche has a policy proposal put on the table to accomplish that, his
world famous New Bretton Woods policy proposal. He has created an
international awareness of the need to implement this civilization saving
policy. All that he requires to implement it, is a constituency at home,
and the authority to implement it. It's really quite that simple to solve
this enormous problem in principle. It is an inherently achievable goal
with society's help. The alternative, though, is unthinkable.
The physical economic collapse crisis
All of this
is happening in an environment of a general collapse in the physical
economy in terms of the collapse of industries, of physical
infrastructures, employment, production, family incomes, farming, health
care, and so on. When Roosevelt's new deal was announced to pull the U.S.
nation out of the deepest depression in its history. The physically
productive sector was relatively strong, and the farming sector was
relatively secure. But not so today. These sectors have more or less all
been destroyed, and this on almost a global scale.
Lyndon
LaRouche has put a policy proposal on the table that offers the only
existing platform that is big enough to have the potential to actually
work in bringing about a world-wide economic recovery on which the
economic recovery of every nation depends. LaRouche points out strongly
that no form of local solution can be found to a problem that is not a
local problem, that is a global systemic problem. His recovery proposal
focuses on the Eurasian Land Bridge development as a vehicle to bring
together the technological capabilities of Western Europe and North
America with the economic potential of Asia for a world wide economic
recovery, including South America and Africa. Nothing less than a global
economic recovery cooperation among sovereign nation states will be
sufficient to address the current world-economic collapse crisis.
The "clash of civilizations"
religious war crisis
Overlaid
above the physical collapse crisis, and the financial collapse crisis, is
the financial oligarchy's long cherished dream to sink the world into a
world-encircling "clash of civilizations" religious war, a new
100 years war as it has been announced, that is presently in the end-phase
of being implemented. The September 11 tragedy, and the unfolding Middle
East tragedy, are not seen as isolated elements by Lyndon LaRouche, but as
intentionally arranged strategic stepping stones towards this
world-engulfing "clash of civilizations" religious war that the
ruling financial oligarchy of the world has been working towards
consistently for the past decades.
The goal of
this warfare, according to policies repeated published since the mid
1970s, is to reduce the present world population to a level below the one
billion mark. This is what the current U.S. Administration's "axis of
evil" policy is a part of, to serve as a facilitator or detonator,
according to LaRouche's perception. The fight against terrorism project
has been identified by Lyndon LaRouche as an integral part of this
process: to function as a detonator. He identified the September 11
tragedy from the moment on when it happened, as a coup d'etat by high
level networks tied into the military, intelligence, and or security
establishment of the U.S., with the evident intend to force the U.S.
government into becoming compliant to the demands for the "clash of
civilizations" religious war that has been long in the making,
beginning with the arc of crisis policy.
LaRouche's
hopes, at the present time, are that his faith in the human nature of the
U.S. and European populations has not been misplaced, so that society will
locate the power within itself and its democratic institutions to put a
stop to the entire insanity of a "clash of civilizations" war,
and will act decisively to save itself by acting on his policy proposals.
His policy
to save humanity in this arena has always been a policy to expose the
truth. His latest policy thrust in this strategic direction is his
"Dialog of Civilizations" project that brings to light the
deeply interconnected roots of the world's cultures and their
contributions to civilization. His fight is to elevate universal
truths in the minds of humanity to debunk the conjured up lies about
humanity in support of the "clash of civilizations" objectives.
At the age
of 80, working together with his wife, Helga Zepp LaRouche, and with the
support of his organizations and chapters around the world, and the
support from the intelligencia in many nations, Mr. LaRouche is fighting
tireless for the protection of humanity from the onrushing three
dimensional crisis of our age, that has the potential to sink the world
into a new dark age with a corresponding loss of most of its people.
The logical
question is: Will Lyndon LaRouche be as successful this time around, as he
was with his intervention to end the cold war? This question, however, can
only be answered by society itself, which holds the key to that answer.
Nevertheless, Lyndon LaRouche's intervention in the 1980s, to end the cold
war crisis, is a worthwhile example to explore at this point, in order to
bring to light the depth of his commitment and the platform of his
approach in the defense of humanity.
An event that made the world a safer
place.
The
event was not ushered in by great deeds of heroism of the type for which
heroes of war are routinely honored and remembered in history books.
Something totally different happened here. The key to the success of his
intervention, an intervention that has made the world a saver place, was
not an act of valor, but was the result of an idea born by the rigors of
scientific reasoning that led to the discovery of a range of fundamental
principles that underlie civilization. The heroism that might have been
was in his daring to counter all those who had engineered the cold war and
had a vested interest in maintaining it. His daring, of course, earned him
not the customary badge of honor, but the tragedy of political persecution
and subsequent incarceration. Nevertheless, the powers that be could not
hold back the power of the idea that he had unleashed. Even while he was
locked up in prison the idea bore fruit, and the cold war ended. (The
LaRouche Case)
Unfortunately, we find the world today at the threshold of much greater
dangers than during the cold war. These include a looming global financial
and economic disintegration, a renewed commitment to the actual and first
use of nuclear weapons, and an emerging shock wave on the biological front
as the spread of starvation around the world created an ideal breeding
ground for new and old diseases. More than two decades ago Lyndon LaRouche
had predicted such occurrences. He had warned against precisely the
same dangers that the world is now facing. Of course he was able to give
these warnings, not by the magic of a crystal ball, but by understanding
the fundamental processes that were unleashed by the policies that had
been put into practice. Nor has Lyndon LaRouche ceased to the present day
to intervene on the global scene with counteracting policy proposals, in
an effort to save our civilization and humanity from the certain impending
doom which the continuation of the present policy platform assures.
While
Lyndon LaRouche is still facing the wrath of those who profit from the
conditions that have created the various crises we now face, there is a
growing awareness unfolding in many circles around the world that there
are no acceptable alternatives to his proposals for addressing the
unfolding global crisis. Whether humanity is spared the agonies of a new
dark age in which the population levels will dwindle to very small numbers
in the near term, or to zero in a nuclear war that is becoming evermore
likely, depends on the success Lyndon LaRouche will have in the near
future to be once again in a position where the necessary policies can be
enacted. Should he be successful, our lives may be spared once again. If
not, our future may be bleak, because there exists no commitment among
those who control the world to reverse the policies that have brought us
once again to the brink of doom. Actually, whether or not Lyndon LaRouche
will be successful depends on us all. We all live in this world together
and shape our common destiny. With this in mind let us look at Lyndon
LaRouche as a person, and at his first major intervention that may have
saved our lives during the somewhat less critical years of the cold war.
Lyndon
LaRouche has many faces. He is without a doubt the most slandered,
cheated, and reviled politician of the twentieth century. He is by the
same token also one of humanity's greatest patriots, and one of its
greatest scientific geniuses.
In terms of his personal history, Lyndon LaRouche is a veteran of World
War II. He served in India where the inhumanity of colonialism was
probably among the worst in the world. It may have been there, in India,
where his resolve developed to do something meaningful to improve the
human condition, especially the stark and totally unnecessary poverty that
has been created within many nations. It may have also been his background
as a scientific thinker, which caused him to recognize quite early in his
studies of the principles of physical economy, that the policies that were
being pursued by the United States government, and those of the western
world, were moving society totally into the wrong direction. They were
trending towards generating the conditions for the physical disintegration
of the economies and the societies around the world, and towards the
escalation of wars and the eventual collapse of the world-financial
system. The end result of this is presently looming on the horizon.
Lyndon
LaRouche also recognized that the same insanity that was evident in the
economic area, had been moving the world ever closer to a rapid
realization of a nuclear war that threatened to destroy humanity. That's
when he intervened. His idea for solving the cold war crisis was actually
a simple one, based on some rather fundamental principles. His
intervention consisted of three elements.
The first element of his idea was to propose the creation of an active
defense system against nuclear missiles, based on new physical principles,
such as beam weapons. This radical type of approach was necessary in order
to create a system that would be at least a magnitude more efficient than
the weapons delivery systems were in penetrating the nations' defenses.
LaRouche's idea was buth brilliant and practical, for which it was
eventually accepted by President Ronald Regan who announced the concept to
the world as the proposed Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI).
The second element of LaRouche's idea involved another type of his
personal intervention in the cold war. He became engaged in back-channel
negotiations with representatives of the Soviet Union for the purpose of
his equally brilliant proposal to the Soviet Union that it, and the
western nations, should join in a common effort to develop his proposed
SDI defense system for the benefit of all nations. This appears to have
been the key element of his intervention for the reason that it would have
created prosperity throughout the world by advancing scientific and
technological development. Equally as important than this was also the
cooperative atmosphere that a joint development effort would have created,
which would have established a platform for unity where deep divisions
ruled the day. The Soviet representatives liked the idea at first,
although they later rejected it, apparently being pressured to do so.
The third element of LaRouche's idea was the one that made his
intervention fail proof. As he told the Soviet's, it didn't really matter
which option they would choose, either to cooperate or to reject his
proposal, because the cold war would end in either case in five years
time. He specifically warned the Soviet's that if they should reject the
proposed cooperative effort and attempt to develop such a system on their
own as they would have to do, their economy would collapse in five years
under the burden that this effort would impose. And so it was.
Background: The SDI
(except from a speech by Lyndon
LaRouche Feb. 5 1997, on the occasion of the release of the Eurasian
Land Bridge report)
Now, the background to this, on how we got into this
business. It started formally in 1982-83, when I was invited by
representatives of the U.S. Executive Branch, to set up a back-channel
discussion with the Soviet government. And, it was agreed that the
subject of my discussion would include, among other things, a
presentation of my design for a strategic ballistic missile defense,
to be mutually supported, hopefully, by both governments, the
development of which would be utilized to provide new technologies for
a recovery of the world in general from the economic disaster which
was already then in progress.
During 1982, to February of 1983, I conducted
negotiations through this back-channel with the Soviet government. In
February, the Soviet government turned down the policy recommendation
I made, though they were still interested in economic discussions.
But, in March of the same year, March 23, the President of the United
States, Reagan, adopted and presented the policy which Id been
discussing with the Soviets, and which became known as the Strategic
Defense Initiative.
Now, in the process of those discussions, in
February, my last meeting then with the Soviet representative (I met
the same gentleman recently in Russia. We had some reminiscence on
these things); but, in my last meeting, I warned him, that if the
President of the United States were to offer the kind of cooperation
which I had outlined to him and his government, and that if the Soviet
government refused that offer of Reagan's, then, within
about five years, the Soviet economy would collapse.
Now, 1988 came, five years later. In Berlin, on Oct.
12 of 1988, as a part of my Democratic Presidential nomination
campaign at the time, I gave a Columbus Day press conference in
Berlin, in which I announced the imminent disintegration of the
Comecon and Warsaw Pact in their present form, and indicated both that
Poland would probably be the first nation to break out of the Comecon-Warsaw
Pact alliance, and, secondly, that Berlin would likely become, soon,
the designated new capital of a unified Germany.
I indicated that, from the standpoint of the
United States, that for the period of the coming administration, the
primary policy question on the table of the United States, would be
the breakup of the Warsaw Pact-Comecon alliance, and that the
United States would have to base its global policy on that fact as a
central feature of the strategic landscape, for the coming period. I
also broadcast this on a national television broadcast here in the
United States, a televised copy of that address which I gave in
Berlin, at the Berlin press conference.
Within about a year from there, as we all know, the
Berlin Wall began to crumble. It had started, as I had indicated
earlier, in Poland, which was the first nation to break the Comecon
bonds. Then, in October-December of 1989, the Berlin Wall crumbled.
And, there were two policies on the table of the
world. One was the policy which I had indicated, that we must reach
out to the former Soviet Union and the states of Eastern Europe, to
create a new form of economic cooperation, based in part on the fact
that in the Soviet military-industrial sector, there was one of the
most important concentrations of strategic machine tool capability in
the world. And, the collaboration between the United States, and
France, and Germany, especially Germany, with that sector, would be
the potential science-technology driver for a generalized world
recovery. That was my policy.
We live
today in a world hat has been determined by the result a failure. The
failure is not so much linked in the general rejection of LaRouche's
universal development proposal. The failure has a deeper root, which lies
in the general rejection of the principles of civilization. The principles
of civilization are being mocked in an intentional war against it, which
might be termed the "war of empire versus civilization."
The
rejection of LaRouche's proposals, especially his worldwide development
proposals, must be seen as an element of the imperial war against any
potential renaissance and against civilization in general. This endless
war, always taking on new shapes, has been the pattern of empires
historically defending their precarious existence against the principles
of civilization. In this war society itself has been enlisted to carry the
torch against the very foundation for its existence. LaRouche's
interventions have always been focused on breaking this enlistment of
society in the service of empire that has as its primary goal society's
self-destruction.
Considering
the scope and the globally assumed power of empire, those interventions
that hit at the very heart of that power rarely succeed with their first
step. But the ideas remain that are intervening in the way the fabric of
society is spun, and in time these ideas will make their own demands, and
if society remains alert enough, they will succeed.
Obviously,
at the present time the war of empire versus civilization is still moving
forward with devastating consequences. However, the insanity of this
process is rather obvious.
We live
in a world today in which investors steal from each other as they fight in
the financial markets over the few scraps that are left of the physical
economy. We have created a world that is incredibly divided, torn by
artificially stirred up ethnic turmoil, countless wars, terrorist actions,
most of which are lavishly financed by the West for the West's selfish
narrow reasons. We live in a world in which most nations have become so
isolated into impotent entities that they can no longer protect their own
existence against the globalized predatory powers. Russia has lost 80% of
its industries by this process of globalized stealing, and is loosing a
million people a year through starvation and starvation induced diseases
as the industries no longer exist that once supported their existence. But
most of all, we live in a world in which the financial system that is
supposed to support the world's economies, has looted and collapsed these
economy to a level far below what is required to maintain a civilization.
By this collapse, which is becoming increasingly apparent in physical
terms, the system's super inflated financial values are becoming more and
more meaningless.
All
this means that we have entered a terminal phase in which the collapse of
four major systems is coming together, and this with the same effect and
the same certainty of it, as the collapse of the Soviet system. We have
the physical and biological system of our world collapsing into poverty
and pandemics of rapidly increasing virulent diseases. We have the
political world destabilized by countless wars and divisions with a trend
that is fast moving out of anyone's control. We a have a financial system
in the world that has become meaningless by its own self-destruction,
which like a bubble is doomed to disintegrate into a spray of fine mist
which blows away with the wind. And to top it all off, we sit on the most
explosive arsenal of nuclear weapons that has ever been created, while the
chorus of those who propose to use nuclear weapons, and to use them first,
is growing by the day.
But what
is humanity's response to this threat, the biggest threat in its entire
history? Its response is to do nothing; to let the catastrophe unfold.
Humanity's response to unfolding crises has always been like that. It saw
the developments towards World War I, but reacted only after the war had
erupted. Humanity likewise saw the developments towards World War II, and
again, it reacted only after the holocaust had erupted and threatened the
world. Then, finally, humanity struggled to put the fire out, but at an
enormous cost. Humanity has thus lived for centuries in a reactionary
more. The problem is, that if this trend is continued humanity will not
survive, because the next fire that it is presently contend to let erupt,
the nuclear fire, will end human existence. The presently unfolding
biological holocaust that is still in the primary stage, may have a
similar effect, an effect that is already far worse than that of the black
plaque of 14th century. The impending world-financial disintegration will
likewise add its own type of horror towards the unfolding new dark age,
which may once again last for many centuries to come, which humanity might
not survive.
The point is, we simply cannot afford to continue to live in a reactionary
mode when processes unfold with devastating consequences that cannot be
reversed. The parameters that we live under today have totally changed
from those that had governed the scene during World War II. The fires we
prepare today cannot be put out with a reactionary response once they
erupt. A reactionary response is no longer an option. We have no choice,
but to change our responses in accord with the new reality that we face,
if we wish to survive in the long term. Let me illustrate this point with
the story of a bird.
There existed a species of birds in North America that had developed a
unique reactionary response to predatory attacks. Whenever a bird of the
flock was attacked and injured, the entire flock would group around the
injured bird to protect it from further attacks. This reaction had served
the species well for all the thousands of years of its existence, but it
didn't protect it from the modern farmers' guns. The farmers would only
have to injure one single bird and the rest would group around it in a
tight circle. At this point the farmers could fire at will,
and they did. By the failure of this species to change its response to a
looming danger, the species was absolutely doomed to extinction. It was
eradicated within a few years.
Of
course one cannot expect a species of birds to change its defensive
response that has been developed over millennia, but one can certainly
expect humanity to achieve such a feat. Humanity is the brightest star of
intelligence in the living universe. It should certainly be capable of
changing its response to new situations from a reactive mode to an
intelligent mode, as this has become necessary today. This is what Lyndon
LaRouche is proposing as a necessity in order to protect humanity and its
civilization from an otherwise certain doom. Lyndon LaRouche's policy
proposals can only be understood correctly in this context.
Unfortunately,
humanity is not accustomed to think in terms of policies that are based
outside the traditional reactionary platform. For this reason LaRouche's
policies are rejected even if they are necessary. Thus, virtually no one
stands up in LaRouche's defense when the man is slandered, reviled,
imprisoned, and otherwise persecuted by those who profit from the
destruction of humanity. Still, the urgency of what must be accomplished
demands that the man fights on, which he does, and that he is victorious
in the end.
Evidently, only a few of the current world leaders do even recognize that
there is a crisis unfolding, or are paid not to say so, since they
continue with the same policies that have created the crisis in the first
place. One must assume, therefore, that these leaders are in effect
criminally insane, or morally unfit as they lack the intelligence that is
common to man. Unfortunately, their irrationality appears to be contagious
since the public loves their irrationality, which thereby demonstrates the
public's own insanity. This, fortunately, is not a natural trend, but one
that has been carefully cultivated by the controllers of the media who
desire such an outcome for their own agendas. One can only hope that this
cultivated general insanity is temporary, like a deep sleep that a person
can awake from at an instant. Such a shock-caused awakening has happened
before. It happened, for instance, when Pearl Harbor was attacked by the
Japanese fleet. On this single day of the attack an entire became
radically altered as if the population woke from its slumber. Of course
this type of response is a reactionary response which is inappropriate in
the nuclear armed age, or at the time of an approaching crises with
similar consequences.
Lyndon LaRouche is fully aware that a reactionary response is inappropriate
for everyone of the crises looming ahead. This is clearly reflected in his
policy proposals which are designed to head off the eruption of the
greatest catastrophe ever. Still, it may take the shock of a major
eruption in the financial arena before humanity wakes up to the reality
which it presently refuses to acknowledge in its dreamlike existence.
Lyndon LaRouche hopes that a second Pearl Harbor type shock will
accomplish what intelligent reasoning should have accomplished years ago.
But when this occurs, it will be humanity's final opportunity, if indeed
it will not be too late by then. No one can predict how much time remains
from the eruption of a world-financial crisis until the total
disintegration of the entire global system occurs, with nuclear arms
hanging in the wings. One thing is certain, however, the fundamental shift
from the present reactionary mode of response, to an intelligent mode of
response, must be accomplished before the global disintegration begins, or
before a nuclear war is started in an attempt to overshadow the
world-financial disintegration. It takes no great genius to comprehend
that our present civilization, and perhaps humanity as a whole, will not
survive the consequences if humanity fails to preempt the presently
unfolding crisis. The destructive effect of a shock wave generated by the
simultaneous collapse on multiple major fronts lies far beyond what
humanity will likely be able to contain.
In
respect to LaRouche's first intervention for saving humanity, when he
offered the SDI as a joint development project to the Soviet's, and the
Soviet Union elected to refuse his offer. It should be noted that the
Soviet Union refused to respond to what was necessary. Consequently it
collapsed and ceased to be. Humanity has the same option in responding to
today's crises, with the same outcome. The present period is hypercritical
one for making the right choices that will avert the otherwise inevitable.
For this reason Lyndon LaRouche is proposing that the present
world-financial system be put through an orderly bankruptcy
reorganization, since it is bankrupt anyway, in order that the core
elements of the system, that are essential for society to exist, can be
saved. He warns, however, that this must be done before the whole thing
disintegrates.
Naturally, a proposal of such a magnitude may seem preposterous. It would
certainly keep the courts busy for years, as people would be haggling over
who gets what of whatever real wealth may still exist in the system. The
tragedy is that the system has decayed to such a point that LaRouche's
proposal of drastic measures are nothing more than the minimal responses
that are necessary in order to save what is left for keeping the economies
operating. What else assures society that pensions continue to be
paid, that food, fuel, transportation, power, water, and communication
systems continue to be available, and so forth. When the financial system
disintegrates in a chain reaction collapse, most of the essentials for
human survival will at this point become unavailable. This type of
failure is not an option. The physical supply infrastructures, which are
generally called the physical economy, will cease to function when the
supporting financial infrastructure ceases to function. This is already
happening to some degree in the energy supply sector of the economy where
rates have increased 100 fold in some instances. When this happens totally
and on a global scale, people will die. This sort of thing has happened
before, mildly. and is already happening again on a smaller scale in
Russia and Africa, and in other deprived nations where millions of people
die every year from the causes of austerity induced starvation. This is
what Lyndon LaRouche hopes to prevent on a total and global scale. People
can't live without food, heat, water, and transportation. The present
attitude among those of the ruling circles who see the crisis unfolding,
is to set up measures to save themselves, and the wealthy, and to let the
common people die.
Lyndon LaRouche
suggests that from a certain point on a recourse may not be possible by
any means. He points out that every day of delay for doing the right
thing, makes the ensuing consequences harsher. He proposes, that as a
first necessary step towards creating stability again, a new Bretton Woods
type international financial agreement needs to be put together that
reestablishes fixed currency exchange rates between the nations. This step
is necessary in order to take the national currencies out of the gambling
arena. Such a type of agreement had originally been set up during a
conference in the town of Bretton Woods, New York, under the direction of
President F. D. Roosevelt, near the end of World War II. The
world-financial system that was created out of this agreement served as
the backbone for the economic prosperity during the postwar period which
became one of the great periods of prosperity of the last century. All of
this came under attack by the speculators who demanded greater
opportunities for looting. The system was finally killed in 1971 when the
speculators demanded of the American President that the nation's currency
should be converted into a gambling chip, the value of which was to be
determined by the speculators themselves as a means for wringing out huge
profits from the national wealth.
Lyndon LaRouche also proposes that the people of the USA, and of other
nations, establish for their nation a national central bank that issues
low cost credits for infrastructure development and reindustrialization,
with which to enrich the nation as a whole. The presently operating,
private central banking system, with its outrageous profit demands, makes
anyone of these types of development projects totally impossible to
finance, even if they are necessary for the nation.
On the international scene, Lyndon LaRouche proposes a return to the
principle of sovereign nation-states as a platform for creating peace
through world wide industrial development. He sees grave dangers in
maintaining a precarious peace in the shadow of countless wars, such as is
happening today through the imposition of global austerity measures
against the background of the West's lavish financing of terrorism
throughout the world.
Naturally,
LaRouche's proposals are immensely demanding in terms of what needs to be
accomplished in order to save the lives of humanity from the impending
doom of either a nuclear war or a collapse into a long period of dark
ages, which, in either case, only a few people will survive. Therefore,
the demands that the present situation is imposing on him, are equally as
great. The demands are so severe that he found it necessary to fight an
election battle for the office of the President of the United States of
America in order to accomplish what must be accomplished, since there are
no competent contenders for the nation to choose from. For this he
suffered the most vile attacks, was cheated out of many tens of thousands
of votes that people had cast for him, had his elected representatives
denied entrance to caucus meetings, and had even his international
observer seen forcibly removed from the caucuses. Still he fights
on.
Whether Lyndon LaRouche succeeds depends entirely on the support he get at
the grass roots level of humanity. Actually the reverse is true. One
should rephrase this sentence. The truth is, whether humanity succeeds in
giving itself a chance to survive the unfolding crisis, and to continue
its civilization, depends entirely on its commitment to support Lyndon
LaRouche. It may sound crazy that the future of humanity should depend on
one single man, but so it is. Indeed, LaRouche got angry himself about
this vulnerability, especially since people in key positions such as his,
usually get assassinated. "You have no right to be so stupid" he
is reported to have said about the present society's lacking response to
its own most desperate needs, so "that the responsibility of dealing
with this crisis falls on me alone, because of that."
Actually,
the kind of situation that LaRouche finds himself in has existed many
times in history. In fact, the most profound changes in history have
almost always been started by the intervention of a single man who has
thereby changed the world. Nevertheless, this is not a healthy situation
since the same holds true in reverse, for assassinations. This is also the
reason why assassinations occur, and the reason why Lyndon LaRouche had
been railroaded into prison on behalf of the Soviet Union. There exists
government documentation that the request for his elimination from the
political scene came from the Soviet Union.
In the final analysis, it is never a healthy situation that so much
depends on a single man as we have it today. Still, there is no one else
on the political horizon who understands the unfolding forces as deeply as
he does, who understood them already thirty years ago and had warned about
them, even then. It is for this reason, perhaps, that one has reason to
hope that Lyndon LaRouche will ultimately be successful in saving humanity
again. One can already notice a slow awakening to the crisis throughout
the world, and this directly because of his tireless efforts.
Unfortunately the awakening is happening mostly in foreign lands. The
spark, however, the ideas of reason that already have changed the world
once in the past, may become a flame in our time, a flame that lights the
torch for victory in a race gallantly run. The real victory, of course, if
it occurs, will then be ours as we celebrate the survival of our
civilization, that is, if Lyndon LaRouche succeeds once again.
